The United States of America is a landmass bordered by Canada to the north, Mexico to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It consists of a federal district and fifty states. The U.S. is governed as a federal constitutional republic. There is a four-hour time difference between the eastern and western parts of the United States.
Immigrants who migrated to America won the war of independence against the British and, in 1776, separated from the United Kingdom and declared their independence, founding the United States of America. The official founding date is July 4, 1776. In 1789, the United States adopted its first constitution and became the founder of modern democracy. In the early years of its establishment, debates over the abolition of slavery led to the secession of 11 southern states from the Union. This resulted in a civil war, known as the North–South War, which lasted about five years. The American Civil War ended in victory for the North.
The diversity brought by different active groups, races, and beliefs is a key element in shaping American culture. The purpose of the Green Card lottery is to contribute to this diversity. The first wave of settlers in America were of Irish and English origin, while the second wave consisted of African slaves who were forcibly brought to the continent against their will. In the third stage, millions of Germans, Poles, Greeks, Czechs, and Russians joined the American population. Today, the majority of immigrants seeking greater prosperity and freedom come from Asia and Latin America. Currently, there are approximately 1,000,000 Turks living in the United States. On average, around 20,000 Turks migrate to the United States each year. Turkish populations are especially concentrated in New York, California, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Indianapolis, and Arizona.
What is a Green Card?
A Green Card is an immigrant visa that allows you to have permanent residency and work authorization in the United States, even if you are not an American citizen.
What is the Green Card (Diversity Immigrant Visa) Lottery?
Each year, under the authority of the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Department of State grants 50,000 people a Green Card (Diversity Immigrant Visa) through a lottery as part of the Diversity Visa (DV) Program. The DV program, held annually, is simple but limited by certain strict rules and is available to individuals who meet specific eligibility requirements. Winners of the DV program are selected through a random drawing conducted by a computer.
There is no requirement to know English in order to participate in the Green Card lottery or to obtain a visa if you win the lottery. Winning the lottery does not automatically mean you will receive a Green Card. More people are notified of their selection than the total number of visas available. Only those who complete their procedures correctly and on time, and who are deemed eligible by the U.S. authorities, are granted visas that allow them to obtain a Green Card.
With a Green Card, you can:
You gain official lifelong residency and work authorization in the United States.
Except for the right to vote, you gain almost all the rights of American citizenship.
You can apply for scholarships and study at American state universities or institutions.
You can work almost anywhere, including American government offices, and you can open your own business.
With a Green Card, you can apply for U.S. citizenship and become a citizen five years after you start living in the United States (without losing your Turkish citizenship).
Green Card lottery application requirements:
There is no age limit to apply for the Green Card lottery. However, you must have at least a high school diploma OR have worked for at least 2 years in a job that requires specialized skills and experience.
